Get rodeo ready, cowboy season's coming!

Spring is coming next weekend! The animals will be waking up, you should come out of hibernation too. First things first, peruse 38step.com and brush up on your dance steps, of course!

Atlantic City Rodeo
Atlantic City Rodeo

Rodeo &  Beer Festival coming to Atlantic City on the same weekend!
Now THAT sounds like a fun weekend! April 1 - 3, Atlantic City will be full of cowboys & beer. Suds & Studs & Spurs... ooh la la!
Rodeo tix start @ $16. You're darn right I'll be in town that weekend, actin' like a FOOL!

The first weekend in April, what kind of fool will you be?

Bally's Wild Wild West Casino - Oh how we would love to see them get some good line dancing events going! Hopefully the Atlantic City rodeo will kick up a little inspiration for their promotions department. All they need is a wooden dance floor and a decent DJ who is familiar with line dancing... someone to get the word out and viola.

Friendly Tavern reopened last summer.  It's an old favorite dancin' destination for many. Some yelp-ers said,
"Great country music with plenty of dancing.  Live bands are a plus.  So glad to have country dancing close again.  Great, diverse crowd with music for old and young alike."
"Saturday we found this new spot about an hour's drive from NE Philly. Located in Carneys Point NJ, the newly reopened under new management, Friendly Tavern sure lives up to its name is worth the trip"
"The lights are dim, Beer is cold, and the Music is Loud! Line dancing was the Deal! The crowd aged from Mid-30's to 70 years old. I'm Sure this place is going to be a Hit! "

djharry2189 has a few videos from Friendly's. The Friendly Tavern has its perks and its drawbacks but a must-try for post-rodeo rowdiness. Which leads me to...

Cowtown Rodeo - Every Saturday Night 7:30 PM
May 28, 2011 - Sept. 24, 2011

Dig out your kickers 'n wranglers, order a new white dress (so excited they're in this season), and plan some nights out! Do it up like us gals did in "Line Dancing, Concert Tix, The Rodeo Song (sans the music, poetry, art, singing, rhythm, humor and sound) ", grab a grill & some beverages (Cowtown Rodeo lets you bring in a cooler), and assign your designated driver (it's a long walk)... party it up rowdy rodeo style!

Yeeeeeee...haw

Love live country music

horseshoeLuck with the concerts lately... not so much. Let's start with the Gary Allan show on March 5 @ the House of Blues in Atlantic City... we were going to get some tickets at the door - SOLD OUT. We heard it was a great show too.
Then... last weekend to go see Eric Church at Prospectors & oh yeah, SOLD OUT. What the heck?!
So this week I was listening to Cat at work and heard "Caller number 7 wins Josh Turner tickets" and I started dialing, and it rang ~ yipee!! It was great to win tickets after my good run of bad luck. I feel lucky, really lucky. Can't wait for the show! Josh Turner has the sexiest voice ever ;)

Speaking of live country music...
  • 4 Wheel Drive is playing at the Brigantine Elks Lodge April 4
  • Adam Gregory is playing Prospectors on April 8, $6 from 6-8pm
  • Cat Country 107.3 is doing something called the Weekly Cat Country Local 10 where local country musicians get radio play Sunday nights starting March 29. Sounds cool...
  • James Otto will be at Prospectors on April 18 - 856-235-1121 for tix
  • Bombshel is playing at Prospectors on May 7th 6-8pm, $6
  • Jamey Johnson's playing Prospectors on May 9th $15 advance, $20 door. Call 856-235-1121 for tix
  • The XTU Show is June 13th & includes Big & Rich, Phil Vassar, James Otto, Kellie Pickler & more ---- The unofficial start to summer :)
  • Kenny Chesney is coming to Philadelphia June 27
  • Toby Keith is with Trace Adkins at the Susquehanna center in Camden on July 25th
  • Keith Urban's coming to the Wachovia Center August 1
  • Brad Paisley is playing with Jimmy Wayne & Dierks Bentley on August 15
  • The Little Rascals, I mean Rascal Flatts are with Darius Rucker September 11.
  • XTU's doing their mega ticket deal again this year which includes The Anniversary Show, Toby, Brad & the Rascals... ooooh!
And for the heck of it, there is a benefit this Saturday at Prospectors called Officer Down. It's a fundraiser where the proceeds benefit the families of deceased and permanently disabled law enforcement officers. $10 in advance, $15 at the door. $2 drafts, 6pm doors open, 3 hour buffet. A night out & a good cause all in one...

Line Dance Blog Buzz

retro newspaper
What people have been thinking & saying about line dancing recently in the blog world.
Country Music is my Favorite
From: http://www.pitmanchamber.com/arts/country-music-is-my-favorite/
...Anyone who has never gone line dancing before is really missing out because it is a blast. So if you haven’t gone go check it out you’ll have a great time.

Country Wedding Bride stuff
Bridal Accessories: Some 3 Great Wedding Themes http://mothershare.net/bridal-accessories-some-3-great-wedding-themes/
"...If you find a hall with an outdoor area, you can have a down south barbecue and some down home western dancing. This one extremely well thought out wedding. The bridal accessories will include decorations, cowboy hats, cowgirl dresses or pants skirts and a lace robe tied around the cowboy hat. If you have a more modern country wedding, you might have a ceremony and a reception you would find in Nashville. Your guests would be strictly cowboys and cowgirls without the Indians. Everything else could remain the same but instead of square dancing, you would have modern day country dancing or line dancing as it is called today. The bridal accessories might include a unity candle with a little gold rope holding miniature cowboy hat and a ring bearer pillow with fringes and a cowboy hat holding the rings. The cake topper might include a cowgirl and a cowboy or two western hats joined together."

So you must know
"We went swing dancing and line dancing. It was pretty much like old times when nothing else mattered and no one else existed."

Fitness perspective

Gold’s Gym — Ten Fittest Presidents of All Time
"Before “Dancing with the Stars,” George Washington enjoyed jigs and country dancing."

Fastest Way to Lose Weight - I Hate the Treadmill!
"Dancing is another great way to get your daily workout in and lose weight. If you are into country music, try some line dancing. Most cities have at least one country bar with a dance floor that has line dancing lessons on certain nights of the week. It’s great exercise, lots of fun, and a super way to shed some pounds fast."

Line dancing to contemporary music draws crowds
"Good dancers or not, these participants have met new people, tested their skills and made progress with fitness goals."

Health Perspective
Brain cells start to grow
"A new study suggests that seniors who line dance, play bridge or a musical instrument may be doing more than just having fun: They may be warding off the risk of developing dementia, including Alzheimer’s, a progressive brain disease which afflicts four million Americans."

Just For Fun
http://rawh1de.blogspot.com/2008/10/so-on-monday-morning-after-working-12.html
"I WENT OUT COUNTRY DANCING WITH MY FRIENDS LYNDSI, PAIGE, AND KATHRYN....i have to admit that i was a little bit anxious at first but I HAD A BLAST"

The tale of the cowboy boots
"Man, did he look amazing in those boots. Maybe he could take up country dancing. The Achy Breaky was really big right now! Line dancing, that might be fun eh."

Hint, Hint... see... men, it's okay to go watch! ;)
http://itsorangenotred.com/2008/10/one-thing-ill-give-poker-players.html
"...our lack of country-dancing skills rendering us both helplessly beta-male, lingered on the rail of the dance floor observing the action. We initiated one of countless similar conversations we've had in the past that focus on evaluating the modern-day dating scene."

See, I'm not the only one who loves to line dance :)

the 'Chicken Fried' that makes this vegetarian line dance

A couple weeks ago I was out line dancing at Prospectors just after I heard a new good song on my Nashville friend's myspace blog. The song is called Chicken Fried and I like it a lot! It is one of those down home feel good songs. Anyway, to my surprise, Joe played it and I believe we did a Canadian Stomp to it. It worked but look what I just found... ohh yeah! TOny & Lana Wilson choreographed a line dance to Zac Brown's song "Chicken Fried". I'm looking forward to learning this one!

Dance for energy

As I browsed technorati this morning, I came across this super interesting post. In Europe, nightclubs are going green with these power generating dancefloors using something called piezoelectricity. As people bounce about the floor, the movement on the floor is converted into evergy and stored in batteries. How cool is that?! Dance for a cause :)

Alan Jackson, Good Time & a line dancing record

I'm really into AJ's new song Good Time! It's one of those songs that I turn up... it puts me in one of those good - I'm singing while driving my truck with the windows down - bopping along - kinda songs.

Alan Jackson is trying to set a world record for the longest line dance spanning cities and according to www.newschannel5.com/global/story.asp?s=8280872 , states. Yeah, it said, "It takes a massive casting call to put together a music video on this scale." I want to know why I didn't get the memo! I would have been all over that!

Well, I'm looking forward to seeing this video at the end of the month when it's released. Very cool!

Here's the Good Time Line Dance on youtube...

Here are the steps for Good Time Line Dance ... I found them on the Alan Jackson Website

Update: June 6th 2008 CMT posted "Choreographing the World’s Longest Line Dance" on their blog.

Cape May line dancing doesn't look too likely this summer

From the Cape May Gazette...

"With two repair estimates coming in at more than $300,000, Cape May City Council will not repair Convention Hall for use this summer, it was decided at a workshop meeting Tuesday, May 6."

http://cmnews.shorenewsnow.com/2008/05/06/convention-hall-will-stay-closed-for-the-summer.aspx

Not good news! It doesn't look like there will be any dancing at Convention Hall this summer :*(
Go figure... the summer that gas prices are expected to hit 4 bucks a gallon. My favorite free summer line dancing destination on the beach less than a gallon of gas away from home is no more... at least for a while.

I am going to sulk and think of more reasons I Love Country Boys... that'll cheer me up!

Cape May line dancing isn't looking so likely tomorrow night

I just heard some bad news about the Cape May Convention Hall. I just saw the post, "Convention Hall closed for structural worries" on the Cape May Gazette's breaking news. That must mean that the last dance of the spring will probably be canceled for tomorrow night.
I hope the Convention Hall reopens by June 27 when the free line dancing is scheduled to begin! I bet there are lots of Jazz Festival goers who are hoping it reopens by April 18 too. The jazz fest is a pretty big deal in Cape May.

Line dancing in other places in south jersey are still happening! Of course, there is still line dancing at the Scullville Fire House. Also, Debbie is going to be teaching a 6 week beginner line dancing class evenings at Ocean City High School. I'll try to find out the details but you can find out more information by calling Ocean City High School.

Wednesday in Scullville at the fire house, we got a nice surprise! Ken's sister sang Patsy Cline's "Crazy" for us. That was followed by a duet of Ken & his sister singing Kenny Roger's "The Gambler". They were both excellent! Can you beat line dancing and free surprise entertainment? I think not!

When you go dancing in Scullville, they give you a ticket at the door. Ken & Debbie do a drawing for a free pass. I've been going dancing for 10 years and I've won about 3 free passes until two weeks ago. Two weeks in a row I won a free pass. It was great! I feel lucky! I think I need to break out my old Mary Chapin Carpenter cd and listen to that song!

Anyway, sorry to be the bearer of bad news about line dancing tomorrow night in Cape May. There are country back-up plans in the area though...
If you are into Eric Church , he's performing at Prospector's. The tickets are $25 at the door and $20 ahead of time. He's the guy that sings "Two Pink Lines", "How 'Bout You", and "Sinners Like Me". He's pretty good! My favorite part of seeing shows at Prospector's is that you usually get to meet the artist & take a photo with them... and there's line dancing! Holla!

Well, I'll continue to pass on any information I hear about Cape May Convention Hall.
