Tonight DJ Joe White will dust off his cowboy boots & line dance playlists to bring some great line dancing music back to South Jersey line dancers.
Joe White DJ'ed and taught line & couples dances in the Philadelphia area at Prospectors for years. Playing GOOD dancing music, he had a knack for pairing new songs with classic dances. It's been about a year since his departure from Prospectors where he is greatly missed by many boot-scootin' bar-goers. "Where's the Hell Yeah button" and "Wouldn't miss it for the WORLD" are what some said on facebook event, The Return of DJ Joe White. Choreographer of the line dance, 4 Sure , Joe keeps the dance floor moving.
If you can't make it out tonight, we've heard some buzz about another DJ Joe White appearance at 38 West on July 29th.

Have you been back to Prospectors in Mt. Laurel, NJ since the grand reopening with a larger dance floor? What are your thoughts? I'm curious to hear if your experience was anything like mine.
It's been a busy spring & summer. Perhaps I personified Terry Clark's song, "I Wanna Do It All", Zac Brown Band's "Toes" and Craig Morgan's "Redneck Yacht Club'". I think Keith Urban said it best... "Days Go By".
I took some road trips, went to some baseball games, and took some down time at the beach. It's been a great summer missing only one thing, large quantities of line dancing!
Getting back in the swing of things, I'm sure you've heard Prospectors has been closed through July & August for renovations. They have been working all summer to get the club back in proper dancing order come September. They're making the dance floor larger [yesss!!!] and rearranging the layout to better accommodate our needs. We look forward to getting back to some 'pros' dancing when they reopen.
In the mean time, good ol' Friendly Tavern in Carney's Point (Rt. 40) celebrated it's grand reopening on July 17. It's a great place with a slick floor to dance some Two Step & Shuffles on a Saturday night after the Cowtown Rodeo! Friendly Tavern does country music Weds. - Sat. night. They're big on Two Stepping & Shuffling and slightly less focused on line dancing than other local venues. If you haven't been there lately, it's worth venturing out!
We went out last weekend to Friendly's and I heard that Kathy Mattea tune "455 Rocket". Let me tell you how I couldn't have cared any less about what dance they were doing, I WAS gonna learn it. They were doing The Scooch choreographed by Jo Thompson. Easy to pick up, I had the dance down by the end of the song. Cool dance, awesome song.

Jake Owen played Prospectors last Saturday night. It was a really good show! He played all the songs I had hoped like Don't Think I Can't Love You, Yee Haw, Startin' With Me, Something About A Woman and 8 Second Ride. It was also great to hear his lesser known songs like Tell Me and Cherry On Top as well as a few newbies. It seems a lot of country singers break out a couple oldies... Jake did a little snippet of Luckenbach Texas which I loved and Man with a Slow Hand... which totally jived with Jake's sexiness. [@linedancegirl fans herself, whoo]. His drummer had this humorously groovy engaging factor going on. Jake Owen let out the spunky side when he busted out with some Fresh Prince of Bell Air, Snoop Dog among his old school hip hop meets country music medley. It was a really good show, love his music! I would definitely go see him again!!

I tried to kick off my weekend a little early last night by seeing Eli Young Band at Prospectors. They tore it up! Great band, photos to come... There's just something incredible about Texas Country music!
Luck with the concerts lately... not so much. Let's start with the Gary Allan show on March 5 @ the House of Blues in Atlantic City... we were going to get some tickets at the door - SOLD OUT. We heard it was a great show too. Then... last weekend to go see Eric Church at Prospectors & oh yeah, SOLD OUT. What the heck?! So this week I was listening to Cat at work and heard "Caller number 7 wins Josh Turner tickets" and I started dialing, and it rang ~ yipee!! It was great to win tickets after my good run of bad luck. I feel lucky, really lucky. Can't wait for the show! Josh Turner has the sexiest voice ever ;)

Joe Nichols is playing Prospectors this Saturday, Jan. 31. It's the rescheduled date and I heard through the grapevine that it's sold out. Good thing I got my ticket last weekend while I was there dancing!
It must have been the summer of 2002 when Ken & Debbie still hosted the free line dancing at the convention hall in Cape May on Fridays. I was working as a cocktail waitress and it was dead one Friday night... so I left (in my restaurant polo & black pants) to go dancing. I remember walking in to see two guys on stage, one playing the guitar, one singing. I didn't know who they were but they were good! I was slightly confused because I thought I had left work to line dance. Turns out that I'd left work for a free concert. They had begun playing Impossible when I realized who was playing... groovy surprise!
The surprise free Joe Nichols concert was a prize Joe & Mary won on the radio - 107.3 had a contest for the best answer to the question, "Why should Joe Nichols play at your event" and Joe's event (line dancing [holla]) won. Long story, that was the last time I saw him live.
And we got to meet him...( I didn't realize the shutter speed was set to 60 until the pics were developed, I've got a true appreciation for digital photography)
I'm stoked! Since that show in Cape May, Joe has come out with Size Matters, Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off, I'll Wait for You, Brokenheartsville, She Only Smokes When She Drinks, Cool to Be a Fool, If Nobody Believed in You, & What's a Guy Gotta Do.

After 11 years of line dancing in South Jersey, I've learned quite a few dances. I thought it would be useful to make a regional list of the dances I've both learned and seen in NJ. It should help anyone looking to learn a few dances that are done in the area. You can look up line dances - and find TMI! There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of line dances you can learn but where is the fun if no one else is doing them where you go?
Note: Adding the steps & videos takes quite a bit of time so here is my line dance list in progress. I'll republish it as I add links to new step sheets with videos. Feedback is welcome!
